Rookie of the Year is a title awarded to the rookie who accumulates the most points throughout a season by consistently performing well in multiple events. This title recognizes not just single tournament victories, but also a consistent and strong overall performance across the entire season.
To earn ROY points you MUST be a Kansas Kayak Anglers member for that given season AND it must be your first year being a member with the club.
ROY points are earned at each event and they are awarded to you based on the position you finish in. For example, 1st is awarded 100 points, 2nd is awarded 99 points, 3rd is awarded 98 points and so on. If a non-member places higher than you, their spot will NOT rolldown. The position you finish in directly relates to the points you earn. If an angler does not submit any fish during a tournament they are given a default 15 points.
The final calculation for awarding ROY is done by taking your BEST 4 finishes throughout the season including the championship.
ROY is awarded a prize package including a plaque commemorating their accomplishment.
